  • is the organisation ready to maintain the capability over the long term.

Without such an assessment, it is easy to hire a person for a problem that is really a one-time project, or, conversely, to buy an external implementation when the company actually needs a permanent operational function.

There is no single answer that works for every company. Automation outsourcing is not always cheaper, just as a full-time role is not always more cost-effective or safer.

If the need is project-based, irregular, focused on one process, or requires several competencies at once, it is usually more sensible to buy the needed expertise and outcome first. If, however, the company has a steady high volume of work, a daily need for change, and real use for a specialist, building internal capability starts to make sense.
